【摘要】:Theinformationpresentedprovidestheuserwithguidanceonidentificationoftestmethods,andrelateddocuments,whicharepotentiallyusefultodeterminefire-test-responsecharacteristicsofupholsteryproducts,andthematerialsofwhichtheyaremade,presentinsidedetentioncells,indetentionandcorrectionalfacilities.Someinformationisgivenabouteverystandardincluded,soastoallowajudgmentastothepotentialusefulnessoftheoriginalmethod.Thedetentionenvironmenthassomeuniquefeatureswhichpotentiallyrequiretheuseofmodificationsofstandardtestmethodsortheapplicationofparticulartechniques.Someguidancetothateffectisalsopresented.1.1Thisisafire-test-responseguide.1.2Thisguideisintendedtoprovideguidancefortheselectionoftestmethodsthatareapplicabletodeterminingfire-test-responsecharacteristicsofupholsteredfurnitureitemscontainedwithinadetentioncell.1.3Thisguideisintendedforusebythoseinterestedinassessingthefirepropertiesoftheupholsteryproductsandtheircomponentmaterialsorcomposites,withincellsandotherareas(suchasisolationlounges)ofdetentionandcorrectionaloccupancies.1.4ThisguideincludesstandardtestmethodspromulgatedbyASTM,NFPA,UnderwritersLaboratories,tradeassociationsandgovernmentagenciesandotherproposedtestmethods.Itdoesnotincludeindustrialmaterialsspecificationtests.Theguideindicatessomemeansbywhichmodificationsofstandardtestmethodsleadtopotentialachievementofcertaintestinggoals.1.5UsetheSIsystemofunitsinrefereedecisionsassociatedwiththisguide;seePracticeE380.Theunitsgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Someindividualstandardsreferenceduseinch-poundunitsforrefereedecisions.1.6Thisguidecontainsfourtypesoftestmethods,namely:(1)genericsmall-scalemethods,(2)specificapplicationsofsmall-scaletestmethodstoparticularproductsorcompositesofproducts,associatedwithupholsteryitems,(3)real-scaletestmethodswhereactualupholsteryproductsareexposedtoheatorflame,and(4)guidesexplainingtheconceptsinvolvedwithroom-scaletesting.1.7Themainfire-test-responsecharacteristicsinvestigatedinthisguideare:ignitability,easeofextinction,flamespread,heatrelease,smokeobscurationandtoxicpotencyofsmoke.1.8Thisguidemeasuresanddescribestheresponseofmaterials,products,orassembliestoheatandflameundercontrolledconditions,butdoesnotbyitselfincorporateallfactorsrequiredforfirehazardorfireriskassessmentofthematerials,products,orassembliesunderactualfireconditions.1.9Firetestingofproductsandmaterialsisinherentlyhazardous,andadequatesafeguardsforpersonnelandpropertyshallbeemployedinconductingthesetests.Thistestmethodmayinvolvehazardousmaterials,operations,andequipment.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
